“A historic Columbia River Gorge hotel that’s a hit with fans of the popular vampire movie “Twilight” nearly went up in flames Sunday night.
Firefighters were called to the View Point Inn in Corbett about 10 p.m. and worked until 2:30 a.m. to put out a fire inside the walls of the 84-year-old inn.
The fire was caused by intense heat from the fireplace and the shielding effect of a large stainless-steel dishwasher on the wall behind it, said Brent Younker, assistant chief of the Multnomah County Rural Fire Protection District No. 14.
Younker said the fire and efforts to fight it caused about $40,000 to $50,000 in damage to the inn, which is featured prominently in the current hit movie.”
